Women’s Practice Match Report from Kaila Caterino

On Saturday morning the senior women’s squad had their first hit out for the year in a practice match at Murphy Reserve against Deer Park.

For most of the girls it was their first game of footy, however, it only took a couple of quarters for everyone to band together and play as a team.  A marvellous effort given the lack of game time, and a credit to the leadership group and more experienced players assisting our new recruits.

The third quarter belonged to the Port fillies, kicking 7 goals and the game was ours for the taking. However, the kicking efficiency and experience of Deer Park proved to be too good for the Colts in the final term.

We look forward to season 2017 with lots of new and promising talent emerging over the weekend.  There were many future shining stars!

Reserve Match Report from Coach Ben Smith

Port Melbourne Colts 23.15.153 def St Kilda City 2.1.13

Round 1 for the Port Colts Reserves saw a dominant display of team first  football.

The Colts started with a bang to generate 13 scoring shots to none whilst dominating stoppages and owning the corridor. Arlyn Hagiwara carried his red hot 2016 form into Round 1 booting the Colts first two majors. It was all business after quarter time with the Colts confirming their arrival in Division One Reserves Football with a 140 point victory. The team’s willingness to use the first option coupled with outstanding link up play provided the result the side was after.

Co-Captain Phil Karaminovski was outstanding as were Hery Cristanto, Tom Merrett, Ben Wilson and best on ground – Rob Cornwell.

With many players still to return to this side, selections are tight and the health and depth of the side is in great shape.
